The following guidelines confirm eligibility criteria for the Year 1, 2 & 4 OSCE examinations.
Guidelines:
WMS Phase 1,2,3 OSCE examiner eligibility
- Clinicians of at least 3 years’ experience of clinical practice since the date of graduation.
OR
- Trust clinical teaching fellows familiar with OSCEs only required to have 2 years clinical practice experience since graduation.
AND
Active involvement in teaching WMS medical students.Evidence of good standing within their professional body. Completion of appraisal and good standing with the GMC (or other professional body) and Postgraduate Deanery (if applicable) or have had an educational appraisal with a WMS associated academic (who is eligible to examine).Attendance at the relevant examiners training course with no concerns about ability to be an examiner and retraining every three years.Commit to being available as an examiner for a minimum of three sessions. All examiners are required to declare any potential conflict of interest in relation to examining students they have a prior relationship with.
Retired clinicians can continue to examine post-retirement from clinical practice if:
They are actively involved in teaching the relevant Phase of WMS students.They are in good standing with the GMC (or other professional body) or have had an educational appraisal with a WMS associated academic (who is eligible to examine).They have attended an examiner training session within 3 years.
Other interested applicants who don’t fulfil the above criteria but believe they would be a credible examiner for OSCE (in one Phase or all three), can apply in the form of a brief covering letter and one page CV which should be submitted to the Clinical Assessment Subgroup at WMS via MBChB.Examiners@warwick.ac.uk. Eligibility will then be considered on an individual basis.

Eligibility criteria for OSLER Examiner Refresher training sessions.
The requirements/ eligibility criteria for these Refresher sessions are as follows:
Pre session experienced examiners watch a short presentation reminding them of essential information. Examiners will be required to tick a box to confirm they have done this
Experienced examiners attend a 1.5hr virtual training session to answer queries, watch and grade a recorded OSLER for calibration purposes
Examiners must have attended a previous 'full 3hr' OSLER Examiner training session
Examiners must have examined for at least 2 sessions in WMS summative OSLERs within last 3 years (a half day counts as a session)
